Unit 30 P6

Trade mark is a recognizable sign which presents ‘TM’ inside a ring. It identifies a service or product. Trade mark owner can be an individual, organisation, business or any legal entity.

Intellectual property (IP) is a legal term that refers to all sorts of creations of the mind. Some of the examples for intellectual property is music, words, symbols, inventions, literature, other artistic work and other.

Copyright issues- Copyright is a legal right created by the country law to grant creator exclusive rights to its use and distribution. Most of copyrights are just for limited time such as photographer of the photograph or an author of a book. The problem with copyrights is that people can download someones product without paying anything, or use it for their own use without asking a person that has rights for this product. Percentage of people that download files, product illegally is increasing each day. Because internet is so big today, people can download pretty much everything for free which is called piracy. Downloading is not the only way of piracy. Copying, file sharing or install are also ways of piracy. As long as a person uses someones product in any way and it doesn’t have right to do it, it is called piracy.

Gaining permission to use copyright product- Some individual or company would allow others to use their product/file as it could make the company/individual more popular, gain more profit, help others and more. To get permission to use copyright product, simply a person that wants to use it needs to contact owner of this product and ask for permission. If the owner agrees, then the person can use it for its own use legally.

Legal pitfalls in editing graphics- If someone would use a logo or any picture on the internet, and then use it for their own use just changing the name (e.g. nike logo would be used but it would be named differently), the person could be sued because the picture that he used is someones personal product, even if it is a simple picture.

Unit 30 M1

Computer- HP 110-352na Desktop PC- Limitation with this computer is that it doesn’t have HDMI port and only four USB ports, as most of the computer have two HDMI ports and around 6-8 USB ports.
Windows 8.1- Limitation with this windows is that it might be harder for people to get familiar with that other windows such as Windows XP or Windows 7.
Monitor- ACER S240HLBID Full HD 24" LED Monitor- Overall this monitor has everything, Full HD and it is 24” which is really good for monitors. The limitations are that it does not have speakers and it also doesn’t include 3D.
Keyboard and mouse- LOGITECH Illuminated Living-Room K830 Wireless Keyboard- This keyboard has connected pad to it which doesn’t require additional mouse, but the problem with pads are that they are limited in terms of speed and movement which is always better to have separate mouse and keyboard. Another limitation is that it is wireless which means it would need to get batteries changed every couple of weeks.
Digital camera- NIKON COOLPIX Superzoom S9600 Compact Digital Camera - Black- Limitations for this digital camera are that it only have 16 megapixels which is not a lot for today as some of the phones have more than 16 megapixels which means that phones are taking better pictures than this camera.
Printer and scanner- Epson Workforce WF-2520NF A4 Colour Multifunction Inkjet Printer- Problem with this printer/scanner is that it is very hard to set it up which means it is confusing and it takes a lot of time to do it. Also some of the printers have manufacture error when turning it on (based on reviews).
Graphics tablet- MICROSOFT Surface Pro 3 12" Tablet - 128 GB- There are no big limitations for this tablet as it is one of the newest, if not the newest microsoft tablet at the moment. It has really good processor, 12” screen and 207 pixels per inch and 128 GB hard drive. Although it has everything the best tablet can have, the cost for this tablet is around £850 which is really a lot for tablet as people could buy a car or one of the best computers for this amount of money.
Projector- PHILIPS PicoPix PPX3410 Pocket Projector- The limitation with this product is that it overheats in couple of minutes which can do permanent damage to itself or to the product that is connected to the projector.
Vinyl cutter- PixMax™ 720mm/28" Vinyl Cutter Plotter & Software- This vinyl cutter is pretty slow which means the only one option to get rid of this limitation is getting a newer version of it.
File storage device- WD My Cloud Wireless External Hard Drive - 2 TB- This file storage device is wireless which might have a problem to connect sometimes. It also has 2TB space which is a good amount, but not for a company to store every information. Last limitation is that it is pretty slow so it is always better to have a backup file storage device.
Photo manipulation- Photo manipulation- Limitation is that it is only used for Photos which means that movies, gifs, animation cannot be created.
Drawing packages for logos etc.- Adobe Illustrator CC- Adobe Illustrator is opposite to Photoshop, instead of Vector it does not use Bitmap which means that Illustrator is mostly used to create logos.

Desktop publishing- Adobe Photoshop CC- Limitation with Photoshop is that it does not use Vector but Bitmap which is used to create anything such as animations, movies, pictures etc.

Unit 30 M2

For M2 task in Unit 30 I have to annotate my photoshop work from P3 and explain how and what tools I have used to edit my picture.

This screenshot shows that I have used RGB Color mode for my picture because this is the type of a picture that is uploaded to a website.
This screenshot shows how many layers I have and how they are set out. In order for my picture to look how I wanted it to look, I needed to move my layers around to get the perfect image.
The the main tool I have used in photoshop was move tool as this is the tool that allows to move pictures/text around.
This crop tool allowed me to remove bits from a picture that I did not need.
I have used gradient tool to blend the pictures of old and new Kingswood Secondary Academy and then I blended them even more with paint brush to make sure these two pictures look like one.
This text tool gave me permission to add text to the picture to get final look.
Switch foreground and background colours tool saved me time from changing the colours by my self one by one.
Last tools that I have used were changing colour, font, opacity and fill of the text to make sure the text blends in with the picture. I have also used opacity and fill tools for my additional picture I have added.

This screenshot shows how I used Canvas Size tool to get the size I wanted my image to be.

Image Size tool gives an information of how the big the actual picture is (size/storage) and how many pixels there are for each inch (resolution).
