Unit 2 P4/M2

For P4 I will write a report in which I will recommend what computer system, hardwares and softwares are best for marketing department to purchase. I will say why I have chosen each of the hardwares and softwares and also choose the software minimum requirements for the lowest price. For M3 I will have to write another report on different computer to compare them at the end and chose the better one for marketing department.

Hardware required
  1. Printer & Scanner- Epson Workforce WF-2520NF A4 Colour Multifunction Inkjet Printer £71- This printer contains also a scanner, which is really good as company can save up money. This printer has 30 sheet automatic document feeder for multi page scanning, copying and faxing. The paper tray contains up to 100 paper sheets which provides media flexibility.

  1. Monitor- ACER S240HLBID Full HD 24" LED Monitor £119.99- Resolution of this monitor is 1920x1080p Full HD, a really good quality of monitor. It has all the inputs needed: HDMI, VGA and DVI. Sometimes two monitors would be needed, but it depends what programs would be used.

  1. Keyboard & Mouse- LOGITECH Illuminated Living-Room K830 Wireless Keyboard £82.99- This keyboard contains touchpad, so there is no need to buy a mouse, as in my opinion touchpad is even better for marketing team. It has backlit keys which make typing really easy.

  1. Graphic Tablet- MICROSOFT Surface Pro 3 12" Tablet - 128 GB £749.00- MICROSOFT Surface Pro has 12” screen with 207 pixels per inch and 1440p display. It has Intel Core i5 Processor which makes graphic tablet really fast and easy to operate. It contains 4GB of RAM, 128GB hard drive and Windows 8 Pro.

  1. Computer desktop- HP 110-352na Desktop PC £319.99- This HP PC Desktop has AMD A6-5200 APU processor, Windows 8.1 which I am not a huge fan, but it is easy to operate and search for files, hard drive 1TB, memory 8GB DDR3 and AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics. Overall this is a very good computer for this price. Apart from the information written above, there are minor things such as softwares (Netflix, Pokki, Skype etc.), mouse, keyboard, 3x 3.5mm jacks, 6x USB 3.0 and many other that makes this computer much better for this price.

  1. Projector- PHILIPS PicoPix PPX3410 Pocket Projector £279.99- This projector has 854 x 480 resolution, connects through HDMI & USB, the contrast is 1000:1 and the power screen is 100 lumens. Its distance is between 0.5-5 Meters. It is very small which makes it easy to carry around and connect to other devices.

  1. Vinyl cutter- PixMax™ 720mm/28" Vinyl Cutter Plotter & Software £299.99- Vinyl cutter is one the most important machines for marketing department as it lets the person cut out perfect shapes of the image from many types of material.

  1. Digital camera- NIKON COOLPIX Superzoom S9600 Compact Digital Camera - Black £119.99- This camera has 16 megapixels which is the same as decent smartphone, an optical zoom 22x and full HD 1080p video.

  1. File storage devices(usb, hard drive)- WD My Cloud Wireless External Hard Drive - 2 TB £99.00- This hard drive can be connected through USB 2.0 & 3.0. It has personal storage which is really good as if the hard drive is lost or damaged, data is always stored in personal cloud. If there is any file lost or any virus downloaded, it has automatic backup to stop all this.
Software needed

  1. Adobe Photoshop CC- Photoshop is a software that enables editor to create animations, edit images or even put couple of different images into one to create something personal. Editing begins from shrinking/enlarging images to changing colour, shape and font of the image.
  2. Adobe Illustrator CC- Illustrator is a software similar to Photoshop, but it is used for images such as logos or pictures that have to be enlarged many times.
  3. Photo manipulation- Photo Manipulation software is used for editing images to create an ‘illusion’ after an original photo has been taken.

M2
Alternative hardware (MAC)

Mouse- APPLE Magic Mouse £59.00- The Apple Magic Mouse is the world's first Multi-Touch mouse, and allows to click anywhere and scroll in any direction. Magic mouse is wireless and it has 10 meter length and it can be used on any surface.

Keyboard- APPLE MB110B/B Keyboard - White £40.00- This apple keyboard doesn't have anything special, but it is made from aluminium and it has low profile buttons which makes typing really easy and fast.

iMac- APPLE iMac 21.5" £1,049.00- This Apple iMac has Inter Core i5 processorm, OS X Mavericks which is not the newest version of the operating system. 1 TB hard drive which is enough for alternative hardware, 8 GB memory and built-in wifi. Overall this iMac is good enough for marketing department, but with this amount of money, department could get much better computer for lower price with all the hardwares/softwares required.
Operating system- Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks- OS X 10.9 Mavericks was released on 22nd of October 2013. This is a free upgrade to all users running OS X Snow Leopard or later. Its changes include the addition of the previously iOS-only Maps and iBooks applications, improvements to the Notification Center, enhancements to several applications, and many under-the-hood improvements.

Unit 2 M3/D2

For M3 and D2 I am going to evaluate a chosen computer, give positive feedback and explain what could be upgraded.

2011 Intel i7 with 580gtx graphics

M3- Evaluating computer
For this computer the amount of RAM is 6gb which is good for computer four years old. It costs around £60 but right now there are computers that contain even 16GB of RAM but this is not necessary for computer of daily use, even right now 6GB is absolutely enough for daily use. However RAM speed is pretty low, but this is probably because the computer is old. This Intel Core processor used in test is not good. Although it has average score on NovaBench test, it is still pretty bad. It only costs around £70 which shows the quality of the product and most of the newest programs/games would work really slow or not at all. Graphics card is only 512MB, which is not even enough to have the lowest graphic settings in most of the games nowadays. There are 2485 3D frames per second, that is not too bad but because this computer was built four years old, most of the parts in computer would have to be exchanged, especially this graphic card. For Hardware the size was good four years ago because this is the time when TB hardware started. However because small amount of RAM was going to hardware, hardware speed is really bad. Windows 7 Professional is in my opining second best windows, even better than Windows 8.1 but not better than Windows 7 Ultimate.

D2- Upgrading computer above

I would change everything in this computer as everything is old and works slow apart from Windows. I wouldn't change Windows 7 Professional as Windows 7 Ultimate is the only better windows and there is no point spending another £80 just on windows. Of course there is Windows 8 but in my opinion Windows 7 is easier to operate and it is designed better. For RAM I would buy Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 as 8GB is enough and the company is excellent for computer parts. The change that would bring to the computer would be, that computer will be able to download bigger files and in much faster time. The cost for RAM is £72. For CPU I would get AMD FX-8350 Eight Core as it one of the top processors and it would make a massive impact on the computer as it would increase the speed of the whole operating system which means that computer and programs would work faster. An average cost for this processor is around £112 which is not that bad, especially for what it provides. If a person is a gamer or spends a lot of time on graphics programs, this ASUS 2GB NVIDIA GeFore GTX 750 Graphic Card would be perfect as it is really good quality and it only costs £120. It is not necessary to get such a good graphic card just for normal use but it does make a massive impact for gamers /graphic designers as every game/ program would have much better quality of image. For space 2TB Internal Hard Drive is totally enough as this is as twice much space as before and it could last for very long without deleting anything. This internal hard drive costs £100. What this would change is that more programs can be stored without deleting others.

This screenshot shows that Teodor have created folder labelled with his name.

On this screenshot Teodor has proved that he has created three folders labelled home, work and study under a folder labelled as ‘Teodor Polak’.

Teodor has proved that he knows back-up procedures by going to control panel, system and then backup. He has also used a program called ‘Piriform CCleaner’ to show how to schedule and delete unwanted data. Teodor has showed me how to archive by using a program called ‘Winrar’, highlighting multiple files, right-click on them and press an option called ‘Archive’. By showing how to use defragmentation Teodor right-clicked on hard drive, picked an option called ‘properties’ and then he used defragmentation to remove any unwanted files. Deleting temporary files means deleting history from the browser, and Teodor has proved how to do it by opening browser options, then went into history and picked an option ‘Clear History’. By cleaning keyboard properly, Teodor had to take out each button from the keyboard and clean it individually. For monitor screen he had to use specific liquid in order not to make any damage. For cleaning mouse Teodor didn’t use anything specific, he just used a cloth and a bit of cleaning spray. For replacing paper in the printer, Teodor opened correct shelf and inserted appropriate paper size. Teodor had to replace damaged mouse. He took the cable out, got the new mouse and plugged it. Then in order for the new mouse to work, Teodor had restarted the computer.
