Unit 2 D1

For my D1 I am going to expand on my notes for P3 explaining the purpose of different software utilities such as firewalls, virus protection, drive formatting, internet history, defragmentation etc. I am going to include images for each point to show how does does it function and/or how does each software utility look as a program.

Security software utilities contain virus protection and firewalls.Virus protection scans and prevents computer system from getting a virus, worms and trojans that might infect the system. Viruses make the job easier for hackers as the software protection is much lower, this might cause that hackers will take over the system or steal any data or personal detail. Anti virus is very important as it protects the software and scans regularly to check any viruses. Virus protection require regular update to make sure the viruses are stopped as new viruses are being created constantly by hackers. Firewall is a software utility that monitors the traffic on a computer system connected to a network. Before going on to certain page on internet, firewalls job is to check if the source is trusted and also blocks the traffic from unwanted source, this prevents the system from getting any virus or trojans installed.

Virus protection such as antivirus and firewall protect operating system from threats like trojans, viruses or worms to improve computers performance. If any treats would get passed computer protection, this might cause serious damage to the computer system or help hacker get into operating system to make even more damage to the operating system. With a decent antivirus none of this should happen, which will improve computers performance.

Clean up tools are used to make sure that useless/unwanted files are deleted, the system is working properly and to make sure hard drive is organised to optimal performances. Most of the operating systems usually have built in clean up tool such as Windows Disk Cleanup or Omnidisksweeper. Clean up tools remove cookies which are downloaded when accessing websites and can also improve system performance. Clearing internet history and free up disk space are also ways to improve your system performance.

Cookie files are not a big treat to the computer system, but the problem is that they multiply very fast, especially when a user is using internet a lot as this is the source of cookie files. Cookie files are very dangerous when they are not deleted constantly as they slow the computer system performance really bad. To prevent this, there are Clean Up tools which basically delete cookie files that are inside computer system, this should be done repeatedly in order to improve computer system performance.

Drive formatting is used to completely wipe the data from a system. When company is selling a computer/ laptop to a customer, they would need to upload the files needed and install operating system. There are different levels of drive formatting, as mentioned before one level of drive formatting is to wipe the whole computer. Another level might be just to wipe one hard drive than all of them. Before formatting, it is best to move all the files like videos, images, games etc. on one hard drive, to be able to wipe the rest of computer.

Drive formatting is another way to improve computer system performance. Nowadays people download different types of files, videos, music, pictures etc. which can be corrupted and they can slow down the performance dramatically and very fast. Drive formatting deletes everything that hard drive contains. By doing this the performance is increased as the less files in the computer system, the faster computer system is.
